The We Card Program represents a cooperative and dedicated national effort among retailers and wholesalers who believe education and training of retail employees will help prevent underage tobacco sales.

We Card encourages all U.S. retail stores to:

• Regularly train sales clerks to ask for a valid photo ID, properly calculate the customer’s age and reject underage purchase attempts;
• Request valid identification from customers who appear to be under age 27;
• Comply with federal regulations and law and with state law;
• Follow responsible retailing best practices.

We believe that retail employees who are aware of their store's policies and the federal, state and local laws' requirements and who have received intensive training are better equipped to reject attempted purchases by minors.
